Houston Moving Costs & Pricing

A clear, honest look at what movers cost in Houston — how we charge, what drives the price, and what you can expect to pay in 2026.

How Houston Movers Charge

Most Houston local moves are priced by the hour, based on crew size. You pay for the time the crew is actively working on your move — loading, driving between locations, and unloading — plus a standard travel/truck fee. Long-distance and flat-rate moves are quoted differently (see below).

At Purple Peacock, your quote is honest and upfront: you know the hourly rate, the crew size, the minimum, and the travel fee before we ever load a box. No hidden fuel charges, no surprise stair fees.

Typical Houston Moving Rates (2026)

Rates vary by crew size and move complexity, but here's what Houston local moving generally looks like:

  • 2-person crew — best for studio/1-bedroom apartments and small moves
  • 3-person crew — the sweet spot for 2–3 bedroom homes and most apartments
  • 4-person crew — recommended for 4+ bedroom homes and larger moves

A larger crew costs more per hour but finishes faster — for bigger homes, a 4-person crew often saves money overall by cutting total hours.

What Drives the Cost

Several factors shape your final price:

  • Home size & item count — more belongings mean more time
  • Crew size — bigger crews cost more per hour but move faster
  • Access — stairs, elevators, long carries, and tight parking add time
  • Distance — local moves bill hourly; long-distance is quoted by weight/distance
  • Packing & supplies — add packing services or materials if needed
  • Timing — peak season (summer, month-end, weekends) can carry premiums

Minimums & Travel Fees

Like most Houston movers, we have a minimum booking (typically 2–3 hours) so a crew's time is fairly compensated. A standard travel/truck fee covers getting the crew and equipment to your start location and back — it's a flat add-on, not a hidden hourly charge. You'll see it clearly in your quote.

Ways to Keep Your Move Affordable

You have real control over your moving cost. A few ways to save:

  • Declutter first — move less, pay less. Donate or sell what you don't need.
  • Be packed and ready — a packed home loads far faster than one we're still boxing up.
  • Reserve elevator & parking — smooth access saves real time.
  • Move mid-month & mid-week — when available, off-peak slots can be more flexible.
